Un Mondo A Parte – a world apart.

This is the title of a series of recollections written by Gustaw Herling-Grudzinski. A composition written by Lucovido Enaudi bears the same title, and can be heard on this recording. Gustaw Herling-Grudzinski is recognised as one of Poland’s foremost twentieth century prose writer, and was also a literary critic. He was imprisoned in a Soviet Labour Camp 1941 for opposing the way in which the Russians has occupied his homeland. In his work he wanted to convey that the Russians and Poles, during World War II were a “world apart”. Sixty years on there continues to be a “world” of difference between religious and political views of people in different countries of the world, and those differences often account for the shedding of blood and loss of lives.

Music is something that can bring peoples from a variety of backgrounds together – music is their “common” language. With that in mind, Annette has selected a programme for this CD that will appeal to a wide-ranging audience – from Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and the Spanish ballad Romance De Amor to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Bach’s Toccata inD Minor, Verdi’s La Vergine and a piano adaptation of a harp arrangement by John Thomas of Bugeilio’r Gwenith Gwyn.
