Slighe An Airgid - The Silver Way
Kenneth Thomson joined the Glasgow Gaelic Musical Association in 1968 as a member of
the bass section. 40 years later he is celebrating his long-term membership of the choir,
and another significant milestone as the choirs conductor for the past 25 years.
Kenneth is a Mòd Gold Medallist and a very talented musician. All the songs on this album
have been arranged by him during his successful years at the helm, in which time the choir
has won the coveted top prize – the Lovat and Tullibardine Shield – at the National Mòd on
4 occasions. Although he says he has little chance of beating the record of one his
predecessors – J Norman McConochie – who spent 47 years as conductor of the GG, Kenneth
shows no sign of slowing down, and is one of the most popular figures on the Gaelic music
scene. Here’s to the next 25!
After several years conducting the choir Kenneth started arranging songs for choral singing
and on this album there are 18 of the sixty or so he has arranged to date.
